After 4 months of development and 1 month of waiting for Apple’s approval we are proud to announce that “Check In: The Emotional Brain Training App” is now on the iPhone App Store and will be free for the month of November.
See it in the itunes store HERE
We have designed this app so that it is a more immersive experience of using the tools, so there are optional video and audio clips of Laurel guiding you through each tool as well as a “Brain State Finder” which asks you a series of questions and then tells you your Brain State.
There are a number of other features, here is the app description on the App Store:
Check In is a revolutionary new way of providing daily emotional support for you when ever and where every you need it. Check In is based on the Patent Pending 5 Point System of Emotional Brain Training (EBT). Emotional Brain Training is the only method focused on changing how you process stress in the moment by retraining your emotional brain. So instead of dealing with stress by thinking too much, getting anxious, overeating or people pleasing, just open the Check In app and determine your current stress level or “Brain State” and use the corresponding tool to get your self back to balance. EBT was developed over the past 30 years by clinician and New York Times Best Seller Laurel Mellin. If you decide you would like to become an expert in using the tools and experience the effect in your life, the EBT program also offers an Introduction to the 5 Point System Telegroup which prepares you for the 6 EBT Kits which assist people through the process of healing past hurts and obtaining lifes richest rewards: balance, integrity, intimacy, spirituality, vibrancy and authenticity. Features of Check In: Brain State Finder: Go through a series of question that ask you to describe how you are feeling in terms of your Relationships, Thinking, Behavior, Spiritual Connection and Stress Level. Get to One: Once you have determined your “Brain State” you can then use the tool that corresponds to that state. Their are 5 Brain States and 5 Tools: Sanctuary Time, Feelings Check, Emotional Housecleaning, The Cycle Tool, Damage Control. The Cycle tool is the most difficult to master and is best used in an EBT Coaching session. Progress: Track your progress of number of time you have checked in, average check ins per day or per week, through the various levels of the EBT. Get Started: Watch an example of a real Cycle Watch an overview of the 4 Rules of Emotional Brain Training with Laurel Mellin Visit EBT.org Call your local EBT Provider- There are over a hundred EBT providers in the US who provide local groups and coaching. EBT News: an RSS feed from our EBT News Blog Grind In: At the end of a Cycle, the insight that is learned from determining ones reasonable expectation is saved and then can be repeated over and over to oneself to rewire instill that new expectation in your emotional brain. Sanctuary: Listen to a 4 minute Sanctuary Time audio.

I’m really excited to see this, and it looks great. One small bug that I found playing with it this morning — in the emotional housekeeping tool, the audio for “what do you need” and “do you need support” are flipped.

Grateful for the new app!
While getting to know this app I found that when I press the BRAIN STATE FINDER I’m kicked out of the app.

HI David,
Thanks for letting us know, what version of iPhone do you have and also what operating software do you have on it? (3.0, 3.1?)
We are looking into the bug.
Best,
Joe

I had a similiar problem– if I turn off Laurel in the the checkin tool, then when i select the brain state finder I get kicked out of the app. I am using 3.1.2 version of the OS.

I am really liking this new app.
) Thanks for all the hard work that has gone into creating it. It makes it SO easy to check in … I just have my iPod timer set to go off every hour, and then switch to the Brain State Finder.
I had a couple of “wonderings” re the Brain State Finder. Sometimes I don’t know that I am *thinking* at all, really, and so not sure how to answer the first set of questions about my “thinking”. I am not sure I know the difference between “Concrete” and “Abstract”. Is it that “concrete” is more like I am thinking about what I am going to DO today, while “abstract” would be thinking more about lofty *ideas* ??
I also note that there are no questions about the state of my body. For example, if I am in a lot of (physical) pain, or if I am acutely sick and that is impacting my whole mind-body system so that my overall “state” is quite low, actually, does the Brain State Finder not consider that important to take into account? (My EBT provider had suggested some time ago to “add up everything happening in mind/body/spirit” to determine my number on the five-point scale. Should this no longer be the case in determining “brain state”? )
Finally, I note that the Brain State Finder will often “rate” me higher than I would typically rate myself, so I have been wondering whether I have been rating myself too low all this time!
It is exciting to see these new things (new videos from Laurel in the app, the fact this 2nd app is already out, the coming book) in the Program, and I am looking forward to more developments in the iPhone app!
While I’m here I just want to add that I SO APPRECIATE still, all the older resources that are still available (all the past cycles and provider advice on the “old” site, all of Laurel’s writings and audio, such as the 3-Day Solution Plan which has some great GEMS in it! etc.) as I make my way along the Pathway. It has been a rich and rewarding (and challenging!) journey so far.

I downloaded the app into my IPHONE and love the idea that I can use tech support to use a tool. However I was disappointed that the only “apparent” way to use a tool was through Laurel’s video, and that was a problem…because on the go I need quiet…and to read and write while using a tool. Am I understanding that I will be able to do that now? Was that one of the bugs? I got a little confused reading the other comments.

I’d like to know too. Is there a way to turn off the video and/or audio from Laurel, and just have text on the screen?

I love this app and use it slot. But I need a bit more space for my grind-ins.
